March 5, 2021: Premiere of the documentary STRAY
STRAY was filmed through the eyes of three stray dogs in Istanbul and explored what it means to live as a being without status or security. Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal are looking for food and shelter that travel through Turkish society and give viewers an unvarnished portrait of human life and dog culture. The unequal lives of Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal overlap when they form close relationships with a group of young Syrians who share the streets with them. The gaze of these strays acts as a window into the overlooked corners of society: women in loveless marriages, demonstrators without weapons, refugees without refuge. The film is a critical observation of human civilization through the unfamiliar gaze of dogs and a sensory journey into new perspectives. Directed and produced by Elizabeth Lo.
